The mascots are cartoon renditions of a panda, a carp, a Tibetan antelope, a swallow and the Olympic flame.
The mascots were presented as Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huan Huan, Ying Ying and Ni Ni - which, put together reads in Chinese "Beijing welcomes you!"
Actually, I don't like this style. I am really proud of our chinese culture and civilization, but the design of these mascots is so simple and crude that I cannot accept it. It is lack of basic aesthetic feeling. It cannot reflect chinese 5000 years spirit.
